Chung Hua University, located in Hsinchu city, Taiwan, is a multidisciplinary university offering undergraduate courses as well as master and doctoral programs. More than 6,000 students per year prepare for their futures in the 28 departments of Chung Hua’s six colleges, all geared to fulfilling Taiwan’s expanding labor market with job-ready graduates.

The College of Management, the College of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and the College of Innovative Industries provide informatics degrees in information management, computer systems, software engineering, multimedia, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics. The Department of Information Management, Chung-Hua University, Taiwan, ROC has been an Oracle Academy member since 2005 to help provide their students with competitive and employable skills. The university has adopted Oracle Academy curriculum into their schools, allowing their students to gain Oracle DBMS knowledge and techniques within their formal college curriculum. Students who complete the courses are prepared to sit Oracle certification examinations for professional certificates to successfully start their professional career.

Dr. Lee, Chi-Chung, chairman of the Department said, “As of 2016, more than 2,000 students attending the University have taken the Oracle Database management courses. Eight hundred sixteen of them have achieved Oracle DBMS certifications, including 93 Oracle DBA OCP, 261 Oracle DBA OCA, and 462 Oracle SQL OCE. We really appreciate Oracle Academy to help us reach this remarkable achievement.”

Dr. Yu, Kun-Ming, Dean of the College said, “In accordance with the career survey conducted in August, 2014, 70% of college graduates with Oracle DBMS certifications are currently engaging in IT related work. The average monthly salary is NT$40,000 dollars which is much higher than others. The employing companies are mainly located at Hsin-Chu Science Park, the pioneer high tech science park in Taiwan, including Taiwan Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (TSMC). We believe that students with Oracle DBMS certifications indeed have real advantage in their career development.”

The Department of Information Management, Chung-Hua University (CHU), Taiwan, has been a member of Oracle Academy since 2005, utilizing the program’s free teaching and learning resources. Their students learn Oracle database management through a formal college curriculum and are subsequently qualified to take examinations for Oracle professional certificates to position them to start their careers with success.

Dr. Lee Chi-Chung, chairman of the Professional Master Program of Advanced Database Management, said, “As of 2018, more than 3,000 students attending the university have taken the Oracle database management courses. Chung Hua University is a valued Academy member, and the relationship has been recognized as an outstanding example in education in Taiwan.”

In addition to providing curriculum and resource support, Oracle Academy worked with Oracle Volunteers to share time and talents to support educators and students through mentoring, teaching, and coaching. These Oracle experts provided informative sessions, giving examples of how new technology is being applied to business. The AI+ Experience Centre recently inaugurated at CHU was the venue for an Educator’s Day event in Hsin-Chu City, Taiwan. Rick Chuang, Oracle Master Principal Solution Engineer, provided a session entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Service Application,” which demonstrated Oracle’s pragmatic approach to AI in business transactions.

In keeping with Chung Hua University's objective of trying to make students "job-ready," the Oracle volunteer experts provided an informative session that gave concrete examples of how new technology is being applied to business. Educators particularly liked the case study demonstration of insights derived from Oracle, and students enjoyed learning more about careers in technology and the way artificial intelligence is transforming business.

The latest offerings put Oracle Academy at the forefront of public-private partnerships in education with a variety of enhanced, flexible formats that help educators teach computer science, bring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) into the classroom, and inspire students with lessons from successful innovators and entrepreneurs.

Also featured at the conference was the Department of Information Management, College of Management, Chung-Hua University, Taiwan, R.O.C. The university has been an Oracle Academy member since 2005. 過去,研究績效主宰了大學教師的職涯發展,甚至去留。當大學教師受到此壓力時,只好將一切可用資源投入研究,不得不減少在教學、輔導與服務等工作。大學教師即便有心於教學,也無法全心投入,最終形成高等教育的學用落差。
我觀察到,在教學中,只要根據同學起始行為進行教學創新、燃起學習熱情,配合有效教學實施,同學仍能展現令人驚豔的學習表現。
以我開設的甲骨文資料庫管理專業模組課程為例,此模組以培育同學具備至產業界擔任「甲骨文資料庫管理人員」所需的能力,並取得甲骨文資料庫管理專業證照為教學目標。儘管模組課程中的專業職能課程都是選修課,但是每學年仍然吸引了180人次修習,當中約100 人次取得甲骨文資料庫管理證照,學習表現堪稱優異。
根據103年8月的調查結果顯示,曾經接受此一課程輔導取得甲骨文資料庫管理證照,同時工作資歷4 年以下的畢業同學,73%從事與資訊管理學用相關的工作,同時從事學用相關工作的平均月薪為4 萬元,就業表現亮眼。
教師多元升等制度的試辦,讓對教學具有熱情的教師,得以其教學績效進行升等,免除其在教學與研究工作之間的兩難。如果教師的升等需要準備「教學實務成果報告」,我建議教師準備一個符合教學社群與社會期待的教學故事。經由教學故事可賦予升等案件生命力,以此感動外審委員並進而支持送審人的升等案件,佐以能被量化指標檢核的學生學習表現,相信它就是一個滿足教學社群與社會期待的升等。
